Direct Support Professional / Part Time

Pay Scale: $16.50 to $20 p/h


Position Overview: 

Provide individualized Community Habilitation support to individuals with developmental disabilities, primarily autism, within their  home and/or their community . 


Provide support to help them achieve various personalized goals. These may include,  but are  not limited to:

social skills, communication, volunteering, fitness, light academics, self-help, social appropriate behavior, recreational and job exploration and/or support.


Essential Job Functions:

Support individuals in a 1:1 ratio  in a variety of situations
Work with the people we support to teach them new life skills
Work with the people we support and other members of the interdisciplinary team to develop service plans that aid the person in achieving their personal goals

Assist the people we support to overcome barriers and challenges
Accurately document service provision, daily notes and other information as requiredProvide positive behavior support to the people we support as necessary
Work in partnership with the people we support to promote their health and safety

Prevent, recognize and report abuse toward the people we support
Promote and support community involvement for the people we support
Adhere to the organizations Code of Ethics and perform your duties satisfactorily as outlined in the Core Competencies (training provided)
Always communicate in a respectful manner with all people including the people we support, supervisors, other valued team members, and members of the community.

Complete all required trainings

Maintain confidentiality
Other duties as assigned

Minimum Job Qualifications:
18  years of age or older
High School Graduate
2 Years previous experience in related field working with developmentally disabled individuals
Clean and Valid driver’s license
No convictions for crimes that preclude a person from working with members of a vulnerable population
Physical Demands: Daily standing, bending and lifting items 30 lbs or less

Must be able to stand for at least eight hours at a time
College or university degree in applicable discipline preferred, but not required

MUST POSSESS:

Professional appearance and demeanor
Positive – “Can do” attitude

Willingness to learn
Ability to be a team player
Ability to remain professional and neutral
Demonstrated ability to work independently or as a team
Excellent oral and written communication skills
High level of motivation: self-starter, ability to quickly prioritize work, Flexible, Assertive

Provide  Community Habilitation and/or Pre-Vocational Support services in and around Nicholas Center's Port Washington Based Programs


Provide  support to individuals with developmental disabilities, primarily autism,  to help them achieve various personalized goals. These may include,  but are  not limited to:social skills, communication, volunteering, fitness, light academics, self-help, recreational, social appropriate behavior and job exploration ad/or support.


Essential Job Functions:

Support individuals in a 1:1 to 4:1  ratio  in a variety of situations
Work with the people we support to teach them new life skills
Work with the people we support and other members of the interdisciplinary team to develop service plans that aid the person in achieving their personal goals

Assist the people we support to overcome barriers and challenges
Accurately document service provision, daily notes and other information as requiredProvide positive behavior support to the people we support as necessary
